SUBI Groups

The Substance Abuse and Brain Injury (SUBI) project was initiated to study the problem of Substance Abuse and Brain Injury. This website provides information for Healthcare Providers, persons with an Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), and the General Public.

SUBI Intensive

The SUBI Intensive group is a twelve week program in which clients attend sessions twice a week. The group aims to provide client education, peer support, prevention messages and harm reduction as well as problem solving and coping strategies. Clients will undergo a brief assessment and be assigned to either the pre-contemplative or contemplative group depending on the stage of recovery they are in.

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA)

AA is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength, and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. The group at CHIRS is an open meeting and is held at CHIRS’ head office on Thursday evenings from 7:00pm to 8:00pm. The group is chaired by AA members and a CHIRS staff is available throughout the meeting.

For information about workshop dates, subsidy and times, please contact the Intake Department at 416-240-8000.

CCDI
We at CHIRS acknowledge that we are visitors on this land which was originally named Tkaronto and is the traditional territories of the Anishinabee, the Haudenosaunee, the Mississaugas of the Credits, and the Wendat peoples. We also acknowledge the vast diversity of Indigenous people who have lived, and who are currently caring for this land locally and across Turtle Island. We acknowledge that this land is covered by Treaty 13 and One Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant. CHIRS will continue to walk together with all people to nurture all their abilities and gifts to better this land. CHIRS is aware that this acknowledgement is only first steps and actions are needed to truly honour the relationship with the land and Indigenous people.
