Neurobehavioural Intervention Program (NBIP)

Neurobehavioural Intervention Program (NBIP)

Personalized Program Plans for Acquired Brain Injury Survivors

The Neurobehavioural Intervention Program (NBIP), the only one of its kind in Canada, is a community outreach team that is designed to accommodate the needs of people who are living with complex co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. The team is comprised of community facilitators, a Behavioural therapist, an Occupational Therapist, a Practical Registered Nurse, and a Consulting Neuropsychologist. All of the members of the team have experience supporting people with brain injury in the community. Team members are provided with specific training in mental health disorders, motivational interviewing, and cognitive compensation.

Individuals served by the NBIP team are engaged with community mental health or addictions services. The team coordinates care with hospitals, community addiction and mental health services, Assertive Community Health Teams, Supportive Housing Providers, the shelter system, and the Justice System. Members of the NBIP team sit on critical coordinating tables in Toronto, including the Health and Human Justice Committee.
