Family Group
Family Support Group
This virtual group offers a supportive space for family members of CHIRS clients to share personal caregiving experiences, exchange ideas and resources, and collaborate on problem-solving. The group emphasizes peer support, validation, and strengthening coping skills. Sessions are held on Zoom and are facilitated by the CHIRS Social Worker.
ACT for Families Workshop
Many caregivers experience overwhelm, uncertainty, and difficult thoughts or emotions that can be challenging to navigate. The ACT for Families Workshop provides a space for caregivers of CHIRS clients to learn practical skills to care for themselves while supporting their loved one. This workshop does not provide brain injury education or behavioural strategies; instead, it focuses on strengthening caregivers’ mental health and emotional well-being.
Grounded in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), this six-week virtual program incorporates experiential exercises to help caregivers build emotional resilience, stay connected to what matters most, and take values-based action. Rather than attempting to eliminate stress or difficult emotions, ACT promotes new ways of relating to these experiences with openness, mindfulness, and compassion.
Workshops are offered during the spring and fall on Thursday evenings from 7:00-9:00 p.m. and facilitated by the CHIRS Social Worker and Occupational Therapist.
