Poison Prevention Week runs March 16 to 22

Parachute will take part in National Poison Prevention Week, from March 16 to 22 in 2025, to raise awareness about poisoning injuries in Canada. This annual national campaign draws attention to the causes of poisoning and how to prevent them from occurring. In 2025, we’re focusing on raising awareness about how best to prevent poisonings under the theme #CheckForPoisons.

When it comes to safe sleep, keep it simple

Canada’s fourth annual Safe Sleep Week runs March 11 to 15, 2024. Parachute joins Health Canada and others to promote safe sleep practices in Canada and help contribute to a decrease in sleep-related injuries to Canadian babies. The theme for Safe Sleep Week 2025 is Safe sleep – Keep it simple with this messaging for parents and caregivers: With so many baby products available in-store and online, it can be hard to know which ones to buy or borrow for your baby. When it comes to sleep, reduce the risks of suffocation and overheating by keeping your baby’s sleep environment simple.

Parachute in the news

Why injury prevention matters

At Parachute, Canada’s national charity dedicated to injury prevention, we know the majority of injuries are predictable, and preventable.

In Canada, unintentional injury is…

No.1 cause of death for people ages 1 to 34

No.4 cause of death overall

48 Canadians die every day on average from an injury

61% of injury-caused deaths in seniors stem from falls

Prevention works

In the past decade, we’ve seen fewer injury-related deaths in Canada thanks to better laws, products and education. How we can do more:

Icon of a two-lane road with a stop sign
Have safer road design & construction
Icon of a legislation or policy with a medallion
Enforce regulations & ensure healthy policies put in place to reduce injury
Icon of a house with a heart coming out of the chimney
Improve how our homes are set up
Icon of a personal flotation device (PFD) or lifejacket
Follow best safety practices

Our Vision

We envision a Canada free of serious injuries, with Canadians living long lives to the fullest.
