Coronavirus Communique

Tuesday, February 4, 2020
Dear CHIRS clients, family members, staff, and visitors,

As you may be aware, there has been an emergence of the Novel Coronavirus in Ontario. The health and well-being of our clients and staff is our top priority. We would like to inform you of CHIRS' initiatives to monitor information and implement directives from the Ontario Ministry of Health as they relate to CHIRS services and settings.

We have a committee communicating daily as information is updated. We would like you to be informed of the following initiatives:

  • CHIRS is providing education sessions to clients, with general information regarding the Novel Coronavirus aimed at providing accurate information to abate fears that some people may have. The first session was provided January 30 with the next scheduled for February 4.
  • CHIRS has implemented the level of surveillance recommended by the Ministry of Health-Toronto Public Health. For example, in-person or telephone screening for symptoms or travel history.
  • CHIRS will notify residential clients and families should a client require a visit to an acute care hospital, to ensure all recommended precautions are exercised and to discuss the extent of support CHIRS is able to provide.
  • CHIRS will ensure that all staff are fit tested for N95 respirators and that an adequate supply of required respirators are available on an ongoing basis.

Before you come to a CHIRS site, it is very important that you screen yourself using the selfassessment tool below.
